Travel the world, find yourself. Or; X marks the seat

(The kills - damned if she do)

I just realised something. I know a lot of people that travelled all the way to the other side of the globe. And almost all give the same answer to the question; 'Why did you go there?'

In the end the answers always boil down to 'to find myself'. And this is strange, for, you'd expect that if you haven't found yourself yet, you'd be a changed person if you did find yourself wouldn't it? And most people say they found themselves abroad.

Thing is, they don't. Very few people I know take on such a journey, find themselves and come back a completely new person. (for the better that is). Cos you see, 'you' are 'here'.

That is where you are, here, in your seat in your house. That is where your life is, that is where your problems are, that is where your hopes are. Not some weird country. You are not going to find yourself there, all you will find there is everything that you are not here.

And is that part of who you are? No, who you are is exactly what you are. And if you come home and just subside in that normal life you had before. Thinking back about the good memories you had, and how badly you want to return. Then all the money was a waste. You didn't find yourself, you just fled the image you made yourself conform to.

And that is the thing, you don't need to travel thousands and thousands of kilometres to find yourself. You just need to allow yourself not to be like the image you made for yourself, but what you really are, what you are right now.

Sit back in your seat, sum up what makes you unhappy and deal with it. You want to find yourself? X marks the seat.
