Nothing really matters (except happiness)

(Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody)

As the days pass by, the end of this academic years comes in sight, and my emigration to Denmark gets ever closer, I get nostalgic. The first CD I listened to as a kid, the first band I loved. An now, 20 years later, it is still such a great song. And a great inspiration:

Not a lot matters in the world. And the more that matters to you, probably the harder your life will be. But, let's face it, what in the end really matters? (and subsequently houses a lot of things that matter to us) Yes, happiness matters. In the end, all our intrinsic motivations should be happiness. As you for some reason have managed to eliminate fear as a motivator. (good luck with that) Then you are free in the pursuit of happiness. But what makes us happy? That is a tricky question. Since, obviously, we don't know what it is until we have found it.

So, what do we do? Well that is simple, we don't do the things that make us unhappy. What matters is not doing things we dislike. So what if everything makes you happy in some way? Then, I guess nothing really matters, except the things that make us unhappy. Ironically, it seems that once you have become euphorically happy, it matters to have things that make you unhappy. It is like a million volt voltage, it means nothing if you don't have some negative point to conduct it to.

Incidentally I must conclude that everything matters, but just a little. So, perhaps let's stay scientific, just don't do what makes you unhappy. Man, that sounds so simple. And without fear it is. So whatever you do, and you don't manage to find happiness, ask yourself; What do I fear?
